Shift in Emergency Services as Gaston County Takes Over Ambulance Calls

After nearly five decades, the Ranlo Fire Department will no longer handle ambulance calls in Gaston County. County officials informed Ranlo Fire Chief Doug Moore that their contract would not be renewed for the upcoming fiscal year, ending a partnership that began in 1976.

Starting July 1, Gaston County Emergency Medical Services will take over ambulance responsibilities. This change marks a significant shift in how emergency medical services are managed in the area. Chief Moore noted the numerous changes over the years in the operation and financial reimbursement of the ambulance service, expressing gratitude for the department’s long-standing role in providing critical care to the community. The decision has prompted Ranlo Fire and Rescue to announce major changes to its department operations moving forward.
