A leisurely family boating trip on High Rock Lake turned into a dramatic rescue mission Sunday afternoon. Off-duty Miller’s Ferry Fire Captain Adam Parnell was called into action by the Rowan County Rescue Squad to save an 11-year-old boy injured by a boat propeller. Parnell, who was just a five-minute boat ride away, swiftly coordinated with local jet skiers and responders to reach and treat the boy.

The boy was safely brought to shore and airlifted to a nearby hospital with the help of several Rowan County agencies. With Memorial Day Weekend approaching, Rowan County Rescue Squad Chief Bobby Parnell emphasizes the importance of knowing your location and wearing life jackets while boating. Authorities report that no charges have been filed in this incident.
