Mecklenburg County has introduced a new online system, Binti, to streamline the application process for foster parents. This initiative is a response to the pressing need for more licensed foster families, as over 10,000 children in North Carolina require homes, but only 5,500 licensed families are available.

Foster parents in Mecklenburg County have praised Binti for its efficiency, noting that it significantly reduced her license renewal time. The county’s Department of Social Services highlighted that the system allows for quicker and more efficient processing of applications, making it easier for prospective foster parents to get involved. Additionally, new legislation offers financial incentives, paying up to $405 a month to relatives caring for children in the foster system, further supporting foster care efforts.
